He is a Quechua from the Pasco region (Peru). He is an indigenous leader for the defense, promotion and effective implementation of indigenous communities’ rights in general and communities affected by mining.He is currently the General Coordinator of the Andean Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations - CAOI (2020, TD) and was the General Coordinator of the Abya Yala Indigenous Forum - FIAY (2015 - 2017).
Benito was the Secretary General of the Regional Federation of Peasant and Native Communities of Pasco - FRCCNP (1990-1996 and 2006-2010).He was the head of International and Foreign Relations at the National Confederation of Communities Affected by Mining in Peru (2009-2012).
Benito was elected Councilor of the Province municipality of Pasco from 2006 to 2008. He studied Geology Engineering at the Daniel Alcides Carrión National University.He was a fellow participating in the Fellowship Program for indigenous representatives of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights - OHCHR (2015).
He has been participating in UN processes like the Permanent Forum, CBD and COP for more than 10 years.He is currently the Co-Chair of the Global Indigenous Caucus of the Forum on Business and Human Rights.
